Closing time of 4pm

A Faulds:
OK, it's that time of year again where I start to notice the days get shorter, there's less sun, it's cold outside etc. (And hence probably get depressed, but that's another matter...)

Anyway, something that bothered me when I came up to W.A. from my old school in England, was that W.A. closes at 4pm. Combined with being more northern, this meant that in winter it's quite dark after school. This doesn't matter so much to me now, since I have free half-periods at the end of Monday-Wednesday. But in S3/S4 this did matter to me, and I still have Thursday and Friday to care about.

Now, of course, changing school hours would be problematic. You'd either have to squeeze lesson times down, which means more school days (probably...) - 5 minutes lost would add up. Alternatively, you could eliminate some breaks or shorten them (unpopular!). Or, you could make the school start earlier, which I don't really like either. Of course, you can also combine some of these.

I'm not proposing any particular option from the above to be implemented. I just think it may be an issue worth discussing.

Kieran Thomas Rorie:
As you are well aware of, Mr Faulds, I am totally against ANY changes to school hours. Furthermore this is a largely a council issue which you should bring to your local councillors.

Er... I forgot?

Before I'd bring it before them, I'd be interested in how other people feel.

Although, to be perfectly honest, this is likely an issue I will not actually do anything about unless I find there is massive support for a change. (which I seriously doubt there is)

Duncan Mullins:
This probably isn't a good idea because i doubt anybody would want shorter breaks or extra days of school. I personally don't

Yeah. I mean, it's something that bothers me, but the downsides of fixing it probably outweigh the upsides.
